Somalia’s Immigration and Citizenship Agency Signs Landmark MoU with INTERPOL

Mogadishu, Somalia – Jan 27, 2025

The Immigration and Citizenship Agency of Somalia has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with INTERPOL, marking a major step forward in enhancing security and international collaboration.

The agreement focuses on key areas, including combating organized crime, strengthening border and travel security, building the capacity of immigration officers through advanced training, and improving efforts to locate missing persons.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Director-General Mustafe Sheikh Ali Dhuxulow highlighted the importance of the partnership. He stated that the agreement would bolster Somalia’s ability to tackle regional security challenges, especially those related to organized crime, illegal immigration, and cross-border criminal networks. “This MoU is not only a step toward strengthening our national security but also a vital contribution to global safety and stability,” he remarked.

DG Mustafe also expressed his gratitude to INTERPOL for its commitment and continued support, as well as to the Somali Immigration and Citizenship Agency team for their dedication to making the agreement a reality.

Following the signing, the INTERPOL delegation visited the Fraud Detection Unit (FDU) of the Somali Immigration Agency, where they were briefed on the use of advanced forensic tools in detecting and preventing document fraud, forgery, and other crimes related to organized networks.

The MoU represents a critical milestone in Somalia’s efforts to enhance its security infrastructure, foster international cooperation, and build a safer environment for citizens and travelers alike.

Previous The Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency, Mr. Mustafa Sheikh Ali Dhuhulow, held a meeting at the Headquarters (HQ) with the Directors of the Agency’s regional offices across the Federal Member States.
